How this estimate works

The IRCTC HDFC Bank card earns 5 points per ₹100 on tickets bought via the IRCTC website or Rail Connect app, with 1,000-point monthly and 12,000-point yearly caps. It earns one point per ₹100 on other eligible purchases. HDFC values each point at ₹1 only when redeemed on an HDFC SmartBuy train ticket, where points can pay at most 70% of the fare. The calculator assumes one qualifying purchase of the entered amount monthly, enough future train fare to use earned points, and one yearly redemption after a ₹99 charge plus estimated GST. It deducts the ₹500 first-year joining fee plus estimated GST once. This is not a cash return; someone who does not book enough trains may get much less. Direct IRCTC tickets have their own chip so a generic travel purchase cannot claim the 5-point rate. SmartBuy booking extra cashback, first-transaction and quarterly vouchers, railway transaction-charge waiver and the ₹1.5 lakh prior-year renewal waiver are not modeled. Fuel, EMI, wallet loads, government, education, rent, card fees and cash do not earn points.
